NAPIER APARTMENTS BENEFIT FROM CODEMARK CERTIFIED INTERTENANCY SYSTEM

The USG Boral Partiwall system offered a lightweight alternative to tilt slab, while providing the fire resistance and acoustic performance required for the building’s intertenancy walls.

The Charles Street Apartments are a new residential development located in Napier. The 720m² building features four 180m² dwellings.

As Napier is an earthquake-prone area, Brendon Parker, Project Manager, Harrison Bentley Ltd, looked to reduce the weight of the building and the engineering involved by opting for a lightweight firewall system. Following recommendation from another contractor, Brendon got in touch with the team at USG Boral about Partiwall — a lightweight intertenancy system that provides the fire and acoustic performance required by the NZBC. “

“What we needed was simplicity and a product that would take the place of tilt slab — a lightweight system. That’s why we picked the USG Boral system,” says Brendon, Project Manager, Harrison Bentley Ltd.

Engineered originally by Boral over 15 years ago, Partiwall was introduced into NZ over 3 years ago and is ideal for separating walls in attached villas, terrace houses, multi-unit and townhouse developments. The USG Boral Partiwall system provides acoustic and fire barrier protection, up to FRR 90/90/90. The system is BRANZ Appraised and CodeMark Certified — giving specifiers added assurance, while helping to reduce delays and streamline the building consent process. “The CodeMark Certification gives us confidence,” says Brendon.

In the lead-up to installation, the Harrison Bentley team double framed the intertenancy walls for simple installation. USG Boral then came on site to train the builders on the system. “We received comprehensive training from the USG Boral guys. We followed their instructions and once we had the know how, we were able to carry on with the other walls,” explains Brendon. ”The speed was good and the training was excellent.“ This resulted in smooth installation of a compliant intertenancy system.

“In a nutshell, I think the system is simple to use, effective and reasonably priced compared to tilt slab,” says Brendon. “I’m more than happy to use it again and would recommend it — as I have done — to anyone.”

With the assurance of CodeMark Certification and a BRANZ Appraisal, the USG Boral Partiwall system has kept in step with the changing regulatory and market requirements over the years, to provide specifiers with peace of mind.
