MEASURING & CUTTING

  • 1.Start by measuring and marking the wall board for length.
  • 2.Holding the T-square firmly along the mark, score through the board liner face with a trimming knife.
  • 3.To complete the cut, lift the wall board and fold the offcut away from the scored face. Then run the trimming knife through the back liner paper at the fold.

TIP: MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE

To allow for doorways and windows: make the first cuts with a saw then the final cut with a knife.

To make openings for electrical wiring fixtures: measure and mark their location on the plasterboard sheet. Cut a small hole with a keyhole saw. For neat round holes, use a holesaw attached to your drill.

INSTALLING & FIXING

  1. 1.Using the adhesive applicator, apply adhesive 'daubs' to the wall studs approximately 25mm wide and 15mm thick. Place adhesive daubs approximately 200mm apart and 200mm from sheet edges.
  2. 2.Put a couple of small offcuts of plasterboard on the floor against the wall, to allow a 10 millimetre gap at the bottom of the sheet.
  3. 3.Ensuring that the recessed edge side of the wall board sheet is facing OUT, position it lengthways across the studs and push firmly into position. Then place screws at each stud along the top edge.
  4. 4.Next place screws every 300mm along the ends of the sheet and around openings. Remove the offcuts BEFORE fastening the bottom edge of the sheet.

IMPORTANT: COUNTERSINK SCREWS!

Make sure you countersink the screws just below the wall's surface so they can be filled later, taking care not to break the paper face. A counter-sinking drill bit attachment will prevent overscrewing.

  1. 5.Hold the sheets against the adhesive for at least 24 hours - or 48 hours in cool conditions. Do this by fixing temporary blocks (small offcuts) through the board to every second wall stud.
  2. 6.Repeat the process for the next sheet, ensuring they are butted neatly together.

EXTERNAL CORNERS

These help to protect external corners from damage.

  1. 1.Check that your external corner is level using a straight edge.
  2. 2.Measure and cut the metal external bead to the right length with tin snips. Bend it in slightly to accommodate any deviation from a right angle, if necessary.
  3. 3.Position it firmly onto the wall corner and fix in place with a staple gun or hammer and nails.
