AIA 2019

AIA National Conference & State Awards

USG Boral is a National Supporting Partner of the Australian Institute of Architect (AIA) National Architecture Conference and State Awards 2019

The National Architecture Conference was held from the 20-22 June 2019 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre! The conference theme this year was Collective Agency—curated by WOWOWA’s Monique Woodward and the Living Future Institute of Australia’s Stephen Choi — a gathering of architects, thought leaders and projects that challenge the status quo and urge us to take action.

USG Boral also attended the 2019 State Chapter Awards across the country during June & July.

Sponsoring the Commercial Architecture Category for the 3rd year running, USG Boral’s Architectural & Specifications Manager, Adam Johnson-Kain, presented the Ross Chisholm and Gil Nicol Award for Commercial Architecture to @HASSELL_Studio for the Westin Hotel, alongside Chapter President Peter Hobbs.

The Westin Hotel by HASSELL was commended by the Awards jury for having successfully revitalised and repurposed a city block. The jury were impressed with the architects’ delivery of not only a high-quality hotel, but also the establishment of a hospitality and retail precinct that acknowledges the inherent heritage of the site and provides connections and benefits for both patron and public enjoyment.

Also by HASSELL and winning the Award for Public Architecture, the Karratha Health Campus is a key piece of civic infrastructure in the burgeoning city northwest precinct. The campus buildings utilised approx. 55,000m2 of USG Boral 13mm FIBEROCK® wall panels.

All Western Australian Named and Architecture Award winners will progress to the Australian Institute of Architects National Awards to be judged against the very best architectural works in the country.

State Awards Finalists will be announced in September with the 2019 National Awards Event to be held in November.
